An association to unite us all who teach English professionally has been created. The aim is to share experiences, exchange materials and encourage further training with conferences, lectures and debates and ultimately become the voice of teachers of English and liaise with all those involved and especially with our educational authority.

About me

Hello! My name is Salvador Montaner, and I am an English teacher.

I got my degree, BA in English Studies, at the University of Valencia. I also received the Certificate in Teaching (C.A.P) in order to work in State Secondary Schools. I have been working now for at least 12 years, teaching English at Secondary, A-level (Bachillerato) and Vocational English (Ciclos Formativos). I began teaching when I ran my own language school for 5 years, from 1998 to 2002.

I also received a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (same university and Cervantes Institute) and a Postgraduate Diploma in TEFL for General and Specific Purposes (ESP), University of Extremadura.

This academic year, 2012-13, I have begun specialising in Information and Communication Technologies in the Teaching of English as I am currently studying the MA in ICT in the Teaching of Modern Languages at the UNED .

With my teaching experience, I have learnt to develop social and personal skills such as being patient, feeling empathy with teenagers, understanding teenagers’ attitude, etc. This has made me mature professionally in order to become a professional English teacher. I am a very communicative person and I like working with my colleagues.

I got other skills such as Web Design, Translation, and mastery of languages such as German and Valencian.

Additionally, I am a member of APAVAC (Associació de Professors d’Anglès de València, Alacant i Castelló).

II APAVAC CONFERENCE
<<KNOW HOW, KNOW WHO>>
<<Saturday, November 24 at IES Llüis Vives, Valencia >>
<<CALL FOR PAPERS>>

Our second conference is in the oven. Bearing in mind that many members have suggested having a showcase of how we use our imagination and creativity in the classroom , now we invite you to show your know-how for an audience of colleagues.
We would like this conference to focus on what regular teachers use in their everyday teaching to motivate their students. We know all of you have a drawer full of excellent ideas and we are asking to share them and bring them to the conference. They don't  have to be   revolutionary  but just something that works well and you would  recommend to others, be it technological (digital boardsacoustics, electronics, uploading sound files ,etc), ESP and Vocational Training, class management, grammar games, wonderful websites, anything you consider might be of  interest to others. It could also be something you learnt  at a PALE  course and you want to share or what you learnt from a  Comenius project and want to disseminate.
The deadline for suggestions is October  21. Speakers will be assigned three 30 minute slots either before or after the break to give their talk to a different  audience every 30 minutes. There will be six speakers simultaneously so the audience will be able to attend up to six talks during the morning.
Come forward, show us yours !
The conference is free and only for members. If you want to become a member just click HERE

a deaf student in my class

Dear colleagues,
I am teaching CFGS Management and Finances this year and there is a deaf student in my class. She is very interested in learning English and she can read my lips and articulate the same phonemes (more or less). I wonder if you know if there exists any material adapted for people with these needs.(like for example, videos where you can see in the foreground a person speaking so that she would be able to read the speaker's lips... or an on-line dictionary where a "virtual person" pronounces the word so that you can see how the phonemes are articulated ...  I know I am not teaching ESO, but I would like to help her and we, as teachers, are used to adapting to our student's needs.

Help with a project; Survey on transition learners

British Council Madrid asked for our help with the following  survey. It is aimed at English teachers working with the 9-14 age group and  can be completed as a word document (attached with return instructions) or via the survey monkey link below and should only take 20 minutes.

British Council Madrid

Dear Primary/Secondary School English Teacher,

We would like your help with a project which is exploring what happens when pupils move from primary/elementary to secondary/middle school English language learning in classrooms around the world. This process is often called 'transition'.

The project is being run by the Centre for Language Education Research at Aston (CLERA) within the School of Languages and Social Sciences, Aston UniversityBirminghamUK and is funded by The British Council.

The aim of the project is to find out about teachers' experiences of teaching English as pupils move from the initial level (which we are calling Level 1) to the higher level (which we are calling Level 2), the challenges they face and the solutions they have developed. Results from the project will be used to help us to better understand transition issues in teaching English around the world. We will publish our findings with The British Council so that teachers can learn about each other's experiences and discover how the solutions to transition problems developed in one context may be effective in another.

There are two ways in which you can help. Firstly, by completing the questionnaire yourself if you teach English to young learners between approximately 9 and 14 who are in transition. Secondly, you can pass on this message to all your colleagues who teach English to transition learners.

The questionnaire will only take about 20 minutes to complete. Your answers are completely confidential and will be used only as summaries in which no individual's answer can be identified. You will find the questionnaire at

If you cannot open the link, please complete the attached word version (level 1 or level 2) of the questionnaire and send it to Dr Juliane Schwarz (j.schwarz@aston.ac.uk).

You can find more information about the project at

Thank you very much for your help.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Dear all,
Again your favourite association asks for your support as membership renewal is around the corner. Again our fee is 20€ that will go to support  a number of essentials and will enable APAVAC to carry on with our tasks. Remember our years go from October to October. If you have already subscribed to the standing order payment  you need not do anything else.
If you last used a wire  transfer we strongly recommend that you use  the standing order form (Domiciliació ) as it  makes things much easier for everybody. Be assured that it is perfectly safe as you have a period of time to refuse any withdrawals  without consent.
This is the link to the standing order form
 HERE

Of course wire transfers are still perfectly acceptable

Make a deposit of 20 € with APAVAC as beneficiary and do not forget to write the full name of the member and the words  "Cuota APAVAC 2012-2013" under "concepto", .
