Fwd: Primary Teacher workshop. Dramatising Language: practical techniques for teaching young learners in Valencia (English Wink)

Dear APAVAC members,

We have the pleasure to announce the I Teacher's workshop in our center: "Dramatising Language: practical techniques for teaching young learners". Next Saturday, May 18 at 5 pm. 

Drama games are a fun and dynamic way to help learners explore their imagination and discover their own creativity, while also developing their confidence and teamwork skills. In this workshop, we will look at ways in which such activities can be integrated into the classroom.

1)      Introduction to theatre activities. Group dynamics, warmers and icebreakers.
2)      Advanced theatre activities. Including roll games or character interpretation, and interactive story creation.

Useful for teachers with some or no drama experience. The time dedicated to each activity could vary given to the necessities or proposals of the group.

Principal aim:

This fun and practical 2-hour workshop, has two principal objectives: in one hand, it will give the teacher a set of strategies which will permit to add a new dimension to its teaching capacities, and in the other hand, an intensive practice of the English language.

Also, it will serve to explore and go in depth in a creative and practical methodology which can give you resources that can be used for the teaching of Primary students. Learn to use drama techniques: games, problem resolution, improvisation in the foreign language classroom according to the student's linguistic level, etc. 

Finally, it will be an opportunity for teachers to share ideas about good practices. Given that the course is directed to Primary teachers, the session will focus on adequate techniques for different levels and ages, proposing ideas that could be adapted to each particular case.

Speaker:

John Harrop splits his time between teaching, teacher training, his activity as a writer and Bat-i-Burillo Theater. He has worked around Europe doing different theatre workshops and interactive shows for students and teachers. He has also written educational material for the BBC, OUP (Move On), and Macmillan Heinemann (United y Imagine). Now he lives in Sevilla. 

The session takes place as a workshop. It is recommended to bring comfortable and informal clothes, as well as sport shoes. The material for the workshop will be send via email (.pdf or .doc documents) so that the ideas will be easier to adapt, and visualize the links easily.

DISCOVER DICKENS ON HIS BICENTENARY

On the occasion of Charles Dickens’ birth bicentenary in 2012 our school located at 9, Escalante Street, 

Valencia, prepared an ambitious exhibition about his historical time, the roots of his creative energy, 

his work, his extensive public life, his literary style and a detailed analysis of five of his novels, all of it 

illustrated with graphs, pictures, paintings and engravings from the original works.

Mainly in English and Spanish, it also includes a section in Valencian, French and Latin, promoting  in 

this way  multilingualism in our school.

Don’t miss this interesting exhibition if you want to discover the “Dickensian Universe” and  to learn 

about: 

- the difficult circumstances of his childhood influenced by an educated and affectionate father who spent 

his small salary on clothes and wine and ended up in prison together with his family, except for Charles, 

who was put to work in a rat-infested factory, 

- his love of reading and his longing to go back to school to learn without limits, 

- how learning shorthand led him to work as a reporter in the Courts of Justice  and the British Parliament 

and follow politicians around the country to report about their ideas. 

We offer 50 minute guided tours in English or Spanish later accompanied by exercises for students of  

ESO and Bachillerato  on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 12 o’clock.

GoLingo abre el registro para profesores de inglés

GoLingo, la nueva web APP de e-learning ha comenzado la primera fase de registro de profesores de inglés cualificados. GoLingo prentende poner en contacto a alumnos con profesores de idiomas y ofrecer la tecnología necesaria para que el profesor gestione de forma sencilla su agenda de clases.

En GoLingo, el profesor ofrece clases de idiomas por videoconferencia a grupos reducidos (máximo 6 alumnos), el sistema permite evaluar de forma reciproca los conocimientos del alumno y las habilidades formativas del profesor. De esta forma el alumno tiene acceso a información sobre sus progresos.

En esta primera fase, GoLingo quiere atraer a profesores de inglés residentes en la Comunidad Valenciana que tengan disponibilidad de al menos 4 horas semanales. El docente tendrá acceso a GoLingo de forma gratuita. El sistema le permitirá monetizar sus horas libres cómodamente desde su residencia. Disponer de un perfil activo de profesor en GoLingo puede ser valorado positivamente por los departamentos de RRHH de centros educativos.
